NIH Police Officer Brown Is Mourned Sylvester R. Brown, who retired last month as a lieutenant in NIH's Police Department, died June 20. He was 53. A native Washingtonian, he attended District of Columbia public schools. At age 18, he joined the Army, serving in a German hospital during the Vietnam War. In 1967, Brown began a career with the Federal Protective Services. He joined NIH's Division of Public Safety as a private in 1987. Survivors include his father, Sylvester R. Brown Jr., sons Carlos and Nigel, sisters Sylvia Monroe, Paula Elsberry and Brenda Toland, caretaker Alice Hardy, and a host of relatives and friends. Up to Top |
