Koretsky Receives Gold Medal
Dr. Alan P. Koretsky, chief of NINDS's Laboratory of Functional
and Molecular Imaging, recently received the Gold Medal award
from the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine
for his significant contributions to research in this field. Koretsky,
who also serves as director of the NIH MRI Research
Facility/Mouse Imaging Facility, was particularly recognized for his
and his colleagues' pioneering work on transgenic mice, the use of
Mn2+ as a paramagnetic tracer for brain studies, and perfusion
measurements using arterial spin labeling. Koretsky has long been
interested in bioenergetics and development of non-invasive imaging
techniques to study physiological processes. His laboratory
developed novel techniques to measure a variety of functions in the
brain such as regional blood flow and neuronal tract tracing by MRI.
