Conley To Head NCI Branch
Dr. Barbara Conley
has been appointed NCI's new chief of the
Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis Division's Diagnostic Research
Branch. From 1997 to 1999, she was senior investigator in the
Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program's Clinical Investigations
Branch, where she was responsible for extramural clinical trials in
head and neck, gastrointestinal, and lung cancers. She has also
served as an oncologist in the Medicine Branch of NCI from 1998
to the present. She completed a fellowship in medical oncology at
the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 1987. Prior to coming to
NIH, Conley was a faculty member at the University of Maryland's
Greenebaum Cancer Center from 1987 to 1997.
Martinez Appointed DAIDS Branch Chief
NIAID's Ana Martinez has been appointed chief of the newly
established Pharmaceutical Affairs Branch in the Division of AIDS.
She came to NIH in 1991 as chief of the pharmaceutical affairs
section in DAIDS. She received a Public Health Service Recognition
Award for her efforts in the implementation of ACTG 076, a study
in which the drug AZT reduced the rate of maternal-infant
transmission by two-thirds, and an NIH Merit Award for her
contributions to the design and conduct of clinical trials. She served
as chief of the department of pharmacy at Rockefeller University,
and later as director of pharmaceutical service and clinic operations
at the Medlantic Research Foundation.
